Today, Seth will be interviewing Ben Yagoda, a writer and journalism professor at the University Delaware. Seth talks to Yagoda about his perspective on the Trump presidency and the role of journalism and the journalist during this “unpresidented” political era.

Reflecting on Charlottesville. Is it time for regime change in the U.S.? If the organization Refuse Fascism has anything to say about it November 4th is "go time." Boston is still strong and Phoenix is rising in resistance to neo-nazis and the alt right. Alt right celebrities and anti-Muslim organizations cancel rallies and retreat to their internet safe spaces. Trump continues to be Trump. Business leaders bail on his Manufacturing Council. Bannon forced out? Or maybe, he finished what he needed to do inside the White House. Now it’s back to Breitbart to pressure from the outside.
State Senator Scott Martin moves ahead with his anti-protest bill. Senator Soprano...Scott Wagner, mimics Trump, forgetting to condemn nazi violence in Charlottesville. The big question remains does he have black friends too? Philly, Lancaster, Carlisle and other PA cities draw thousands in solidarity with Charlottesville and resistance to fascism. PA Student Power Network holds first statewide leadership training retreat ahead of the start of the school year. PA has the largest number of anti-government militias in the U.S. Sean survives the ETown Fair. And, Daryl Metcalfe just couldn’t take the heat, so he blocked Sean on Twitter. Open Records challenge coming soon? We shall see.
In today’s last call we’ll talk staring at the sun during the eclipse, space, and beer.
Back to school special! If you join now through October at the $10/month level, we’ll send you a copy of Mark Bray’s new book, Antifa: The Antifascist Handbook. Become a member today!

On today's show, Kevin is talking with Dave Levitan about his new book, Not a Scientist: How Politicians Mistake, Misrepresent, and Utterly Mangle Science. Levitan's book is a great tool to identify and cut through some of the rhetorical strategies politicians use in pursuit of their ideological agendas. We talk climate change, anti-vax, NASA, and more! Levitan will be visiting the Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg on August 26th at 4 pm to discuss his book and sign copies.
And, believe it or not, Sean Kitchen is still alive in California. We were able to grab a few minutes to talk Charlottesville, National Parks, beer, and Daryl Metcalfe - aka - the crack in the PA Republican's pipe. And, of course, we talk new beer releases at Free Will Brewery and Pizza Boy.

We've got a special episode of Out d'Coup for you today. Sean is in California scoping out National Parks, beer, and the local "greenery." Kevin is visiting family in the Adirondacks and nursing an abscessed tooth. So, this week we bring you an exclusive interview with Karen Feridun of Berks Gas Truth that we recorded on August 3rd. The morning we recorded this interview, all sorts of pipeline and fracking related news was breaking including a possible PA budget deal including a severance tax; Trump's move to appoint FERC commissioners; a ridiculous Senate Energy Bill; and, the sale of the site of the Lancaster Stand encampment. Karen and Kevin bring the climate action rage in today's episode.

Mitch McConnell gives healthcare destruction one more shot. Now it’s the “skinny bill.” Protests erupt in Senate chamber with chants of “Kill the bill, don’t kill us!” Capitol Police arrest protesters while attempting to block journalists from covering the arrests. Looks like the crackdown on protesters and journalists continues. New White House Communications Director, Anthony “Badda Bing” Scaramucci, bringing mob discipline to White House. You gotta freaking problem with that? Justice Department responds and announces a crackdown on leakers.
Democrats offer “Better Deal,” but can’t seem to shake Clinton-era corporate Democrat speak in making their case. Yawning messaging shows fear of growing progressive power. There are some important policy initiatives nonetheless. New Bloomberg poll shows that Donald Trump is more popular than Hillary Clinton. Yes, you heard that right. And Michael Moore takes Broadway.
In Pennsylvania, a judge temporarily halts construction of the Mariner East 2 pipeline after Sunoco Pipeline found in violation of several environmental regulations and at least 14 household wells were contaminated. Governor Wolf gives allows special interest backed longwall mining bill to become law. Educational Management consultant group NCHEMS releases the full report on PASSHE’s future. Not much new, but things will begin to heat up as Chancellor prepares to depart and the new academic year is set to begin. Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski indicted as part of a federal corruption probe. Pawlowski now faces more than 50 counts, including extortion, bribery, and fraud. Federal in a corruption case that a federal prosecutor likened Wednesday to selling City Hall to the highest bidder. As early as today, PA Senate to consider House Bill 59 to restrict access to Medicaid. And PA Senate prepared to vote on revenue package for budget - looks like a severance tax is included.
In space news, Star Trek Discovery makes a splash at ComicCon. GOP Representative Dana Rorhbacher asks NASA scientists if an ancient civilization existed on Mars. NASA April Fools joke spurs the deep conspiracy web about secret Martian base. Sean preps for a wedding. Free Will Brewing has a can release today at 3 pm - Cloudy with a Chance of Charcuterie. New England-style IPA 4 packs of 16oz. Cans.

Senate Republicans face round two in their repeal and replace health care debacle. The resistance heats up as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell horse-trades to push a vote before the August recess. Will opioids do the trick? Trump floats Repeal then Replace later plan. Mika Brzezinski fights Trump’s sexism with Cheerios. Cable News is, of course, thrilled at finally being able to cover a story it is trained to cover. Good thing the travel ban still partially in place, right? Are anti-fascists the new right-wing boogeyman? If they are, the NRA seems to have a plan. PennLive provides a “Guide to Antifa,” but misses the story.
It’s budget deadline time. Pennsylvania lawmakers are poised to vote on a $32 billion spending plan, even though they have no idea how to pay for it. Apparently, that’s enough for Lt. Gov. Mike Stack to invite state senators to his office for a party. We’re going to wait until we see where the money for the budget will come from before popping the cork. Will we see severance tax on natural gas? Closing Delaware loophole? Will this be another budget that gets enacted without the Governor’s signature? Meanwhile, across the river in New Jersey, Chris Christie’s insistence upon restructuring the state’s largest insurer, Horizon Blue Cross. Pennsylvania passes Guns in Schools bill...taking their cue from the NRA apparently. Two Democrats join Republicans in voting for taking one more step toward turning schools into Westworld training centers. And, Governor Wolf gets on board to limit public access to police body cam and dashcam recordings.
In today’s last call we’ll talk trailer hitch hell, Fourth of July celebrations, and what we’ll be drinking!
Mahoney's tip: Check out North Slope Brewery if you're near Dallas, PA.

Senate Republicans emerged from their dark lair to unveil their goal to return millions of American’s to the dark ages of pay or die health care. The repair and replace bill is brutal. So-called Republican moderates cry crocodile tears ahead of their vote to strip health care from the neediest. Pennsylvania’s own Senator Pat Toomey is, of course, running point on the health care debacle. Ossoff loses to the surprise of no one on this show. Has Universal Basic Income’s time come? Concerns about automation and a resurgent left put that question front and center. Missouri votes to fire people who use birth control - HULU provides the cultural reference for protest.
Gov. Wolf vetoes plastic bag bill that would have prevented municipalities from banning plastic bags. Some in PA Democratic Party leadership not happy because they love plastic bags. Neither is the American Progressive Bag Alliance - yes, there is actually a trade group with this name. Radio host quits after being told not to criticize Trump. Raging Chicken gets the mention in a great piece the Intercept on an attempt by the gas industry to suppress pipeline protests. Kudos to Sean’s investigative work on that! Delaware County Memorial Hospital nurses continue their fight against corporate health care. Prospect Medical Holdings now in court. As we are recording, protests break out at PA Senator Scott Wagner’s sham hearing on the soda tax in Philadelphia:

Last weekend - big contrast between reality-based politics and fantasy-based politics. It was the People’s Summit v. Anti-Sharia protests. Political tactics become the subject of heated discussion on the Left. Republicans shot at baseball practice in Alexandria, VA. The shooter’s apparent progressive politics raises the specter of a crackdown against anti-Trump protests. Victim blaming and false equivalences dominate discussion of confrontation between LGBTQ protestors and big white troll. In the absence of effective political power, we should expect more people to say, “ENOUGH!” Today we’re reflecting on the strategies and tactics of protest.
We close out with Space News, beer, and summer plans. Elon Musk gives his vision for a permanent city on Mars. How about that. The biggest question facing a sustainable city on Mars will certainly be whether or not we can brew beer in space. We’ll find out later on this year!

It’s Friday, May 5 2017. Welcome to Raging Chicken’s Out d’Coup podcast. It’s Cinco de Mayo. I am Kevin Mahoney, editor and founder of Raging Chicken Press. Each week I talk to our Capitol muckraker-in-chief, Sean Kitchen, about the good, the bad, and the ugly in state and national politics.
Nothing unites Republicans like kicking people off healthcare and giving the richest 1% a huge tax break. Bud Light now the the official beer of repeal. Rocky revisioned Wall Street Trust Fund White Guy. Echos of Senator Amidala heard around the world. Screws tightened on freedom of assembly as crackdown on protesters deepens. Plus will the last vestiges of neoliberals be able to hold out against fascism in France?
Pennsylvania Senator Scott Wagner assaults media activist then bars media at GOP event. PA House Leader Turzai considers throwing his hat in the Gubernatorial Ring for what would amount to the ultimate Clown Party Shit Show in a PA GOP Primary. Major endorsements for Larry Krazner in Philly Attorney general race from Our Revolution, MoveOn, and other progressive organizations. Republicans in the PA House plan on voting on an anti-Sancturary bill on Tuesday.
